Tyson Fury cutman praised as ‘the real hero’ for saving fight after gruesome gash

Tyson Fury went through a bloody war to beat Otto Wallin in a thrilling contest in the early hours of Sunday morning, with his cutman receiving a large bulk of the praise.
Not many gave Wallin a chance against Fury, but he proved all his doubters wrong with a powerful start to the fight.

A heavy punch landed flush on Fury’s face in the third round, opening up a huge gash over the British boxer’s right eye.

Blood quickly began pouring down Fury’s face with the cut opening up even more with every round.

And the miraculous work from Jorge Capetillo enabled Fury to stay in the fight, even after the doctor was called twice.

The 31-year-old soon stepped up his rate of punches in the latter rounds, perhaps realising the severity of the cut.

And it proved enough to ensure he got the win unanimously from the judges.

But those watching the fight paid particular respect to Capetillo for the work he was doing on Fury’s eye in between each round.

One person tweeted: “This guy [Jorge Capetillo] was the real hero tonight. The cutman who really saved Tyson Fury’s cut – only the second fight they’ve worked together.”

Another wrote: “Seriously, Fury’s corner and cutman need some MAJOR props and recognition for keeping that fight going!”

A third posted: “Fury’s cutman (Jorge Capetillo) deserves a BIG BONUS tonight. He not only saved this fight, but he preserved Wilder vs Fury 2. Gracias Jorge.”

Lennox Lewis also weighed in with praise for the cutman.

“Fury gets the win,” he tweeted.

“Wallin’s stock rises.

“Without a doubt the most impressive job of the night goes to Fury’s cutman.”

Fury was taken to hospital shortly after the fight with the hope the cut won’t require surgery.
