Tommy Fury has put forward the idea that he may not fight for a year before returning to boxing following his stint on Love Island.
Tyson Fury’s 20-year-old brother turned professional late last year and went 2-0 before entering the reality TV show.
Tommy, and his partner Molly-Mae Hague, finished as runners up in the final, prompting many to speculate that the light-heavyweight would put his fighting career to one side.
Fury initially moved to deny he would quit boxing, but has now clarified that he may put his fighting career on hold for a short while.
He told the Pound for Pound Podcast. “The opportunities after leaving the villa back on the outside are life changing and you can’t turn those opportunities down, you’d be a fool to.
“If I take 12 months out of the ring, I’ll be 21, so I’m still a baby in the sport, but there’s no doubt some time next year I’ll be back in the ring doing what I love.”
Regarding his long-term ambitions, Tommy made no bones about his desire to go all the way to the top.
Fury continued: “I’m gonna be a world champion in the future. I wouldn’t be in the gym or even be thinking about boxing if I didn’t think I could go all the way.
“British title, European title, they’re all great titles to win and I’d be very privileged to win one of them.
“But any boxer who steps into that ring and don’t believe they can be a world champion shouldn’t be in boxing.”
