Naoya Inoue Expects Tough Fight With Emmanuel Rodriguez

World Boxing Association (WBA) “regular” champion Naoya ‘Monster’ Inoue is very confident in his ability to move on to the next round of World Boxing Super Series, which is he final round of the bantamweight tournament.

But before he can get there, Inoue has to get past undefeated IBF world champion Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Rodríguez of Puerto Rico when they meet in Glasgow, Scotland.

Inoue is currently training hard in Yokohama, Japan for the scheduled commitment taking place on May 18.

Inoue (17-0, 15 KOs), regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing, is a huge favorite to win the fight, but he is not expecting an easy victory.

He feels Rodriguez has a difficult style.

“I promise that I will make a good fight to win. Considering Rodriguez’s style, the fight will be very technical. We are almost the same age and we have the same reach. Rodriguez has a good uppercut and a left hook that shoots from a special angle. That’s why the fight will not be one-sided, or easy for me,” Inoue told Carlos Gonzalez.

“I am a skilled boxer, but especially a puncher. I also have good timing and I use the angles. As always [I see myself as the favorite], I am aware that I am the favorite for fans and also for boxing experts. I’ve fought in Los Angeles (California) and it’s a pleasure to fight in another country. I imagine that Scotland is a country where boxing is popular. I can not wait to show my qualities as a monster.”

Inoue has not taken it easy, with a tough training camp for the young Puerto Rican boxer.

“In mid-February I did physical training, especially legs (running) on ??the island of Guam. The fight will be in May, so I’ll probably do another camp to strengthen the lower part of the body. Also, I started on January 8 and I have done several sparring rounds at a gym in Yokohama,” Inoue said.

“I want to win the tournament and dominate 118 pounds with my brother Takuma (current interim WBC bantamweight champion).”
