Miller fails another drugs test

Things are getting even worse for heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller.

Miller was denied a license to box by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) over a failed drug test on Wednesday, scuppering his planned June 1 bout with IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Miller, who is undefeated in his 24 professional fights, was due to face Joshua at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The event is Joshua’s long-awaited in-ring debut in the United States, with DAZN streaming the card.

However on Tuesday it emerged Miller had tested positive for a banned substance following a test conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) on March 20.

And now promoter Eddie Hearn, who handles Joshua, revealed that VADA contacted him and stated that Miller has failed an entirely separate test – taken on another date.

“We have now received news from VADA that Jarrell Miller has now failed a second separate test for a further substance. AJ’s June 1 opponent will be announced next week – if you don’t think you can beat him clean then delete my number,” Hearn stated.

Miller tested positive for performance enhancer GW1516 in the first test, and he reportedly tested positive for HGH [Human Growth Hormone] in the new test.

Miller previously served a nine-month ban from the California State Athletic Commission after testing positive for methylhexaneamine when kickboxing in 2014.

Miller tool to social media two days ago, to deny that he took performance enhancers for the upcoming fight.

He ordered a B-sample to get reviewed for the test conducted on March 20, which now doesn’t matter with a second failed test hanging over his head. It’s extremely rare for the B-sample to provide a different result from the A-sample.

At the moment, at least a dozen heavyweights have come forward to replace Miller. The frontrunner appears to be Michael Hunter, who recently signed a promotional pact with Hearn.
