Boxer Joseph Parker’s brother John was arrested after allegedly assaulting a fellow passenger at an airport.
The 25-year-old was flying out of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport to Los Angeles with United Airlines after cheering on his brother at the weekend.
Joseph stopped Alex Leapai in the 10th round of their boxing clash in Providence, Rhode Island.
Due to a ticketing issue, John was removed from the aircraft and Stuff.NXreports that he then “assaulted at least one member of the public”.
The New Zealand news-site also reports that the night before, the 25-year-old “was also involved in a physical incident with a member of Joseph Parker’s extended management team at a Chicago hotel.”
Joseph Parker said in a statement: “I can confirm that my brother John has been detained in the United States following an incident that occurred on his way home to New Zealand.
“I can’t comment on the details of this matter – other than to say that the Parker family’s prayers are with John and anyone who has been affected.
“This is an extremely difficult and upsetting situation for our family, and we humbly request privacy at this time.”
Joseph’s co-manager Dave Higgins added that John “has been dealing with some mental health issues that seem to have contributed to the issue”.
He continued: “Obviously, I sympathize with those involved and we’re looking to provide all the support we can.

“The matter is in the hands of the U.S. authorities. I sincerely hope John is receiving the care he requires and offer my heartfelt sympathies and best wishes to everyone who has been affected.
“It is not appropriate for me to make any further comment on this matter.”
John Parker has had three professional boxing fights, but not been in the ring since May 2017. He won all three on points.
