Fans curious about 2016 Olympic super heavyweight bronze medalist Filip Hrgovic (8-0, 6 KO), 242, of Croatia got just enough to whet their appetite in his U.S debut.
The imposing 6’6 26-year old battler needed just one punch to end matters in the first round against 38-year old Gregory Corbin (15-2, 9 KO), 225, of Dallas, Texas.
The referee was Brent Bovell.
Corbin came out firing hard and looking to test the younger man.Hrgovic was nonplussed, his eyes focused and looking for an opening. Backing towards the ropes as Corbin came forward,Hrgovic found it. A chopping right hand sent Corbin crashing to the mat. Corbin rose as the referee tolled eight but a quick look fromBovell resulted in the fight being waved off at 1:00 of round one.
Hrgovic was polite concerning Corbin before looking to the future. “Greg Corbin is a really good fighter…You didn’t have time to see the best Hrgovic. I look forward to big fights, strong opponents and to give the US really good fights.”
Corbin loses his second straight after being disqualified in his last fight against former heavyweight titlist Charles Martin.
