Manny Pacquiao has invited his Twitter followers to select his next opponent and after 50,000 votes there is a clear and unanimous winner.
The 40-year-old’s fans appear desperate for a rematch against Floyd Mayweather, four years on from their box office clash which the American won following a unanimous points decision.
Pacquiao has fought five times since that landmark defeat and won his most recent fight against Adrien Broner in January. Mayweather, by contrast, has been relatively inactive in recent years and hasn’t fought since extending his unbeaten career record to 50 fights after taking on UFC king Conor McGregor in August 2017.
Steadfastly refusing to retire, Pac Man asked his legion of followers to choose between four possible opponents on social media: Mayweather, Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter.
The poll will remain open until Sunday, but already with nearly three quarters of the vote, Mayweather is the bout fight fans want to see.
‘My message is I’m still active, and if [Mayweather] goes back to the ring and wants to challenge me, I’m a champion,’ Pacquiao said in January with regards to a possible rematch.
‘Get back to the ring and we will fight again if he wants. ‘If he wants to come out of retirement, then announce it and challenge me. ‘I’m a champion and I don’t pick any opponent. I’m just waiting to see who will challenge me, who will challenge for my belt.’
