Claressa Shields Beats Up Christina Hammer, Unifies Division

For the WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF middleweight titles, Claressa Shields (9-0, 2 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Christina Hammer (24-1, 11 KOs).

All three judges scored the fight 98-92.

Hammer was using distance and her jab in the first round. Shields was not very active and appeared to be looking for counters. Shields was throwing a lot more big shots in the second and pushing Hammer back.

Hammer unable to land much in round three, with Shields using solid defense and dictating the pace. Shields continued to do more as the fight played out into the second half.

Several right hands got Hammer’s attention in the seventh. Hammer appeared to get buzzed during the eight when several shots sent her mouthpiece out. She got worked over for most of the final minute.

Hammer, knowing she was well behind, came out fighting in the tenth, but she was being outworked with the harder punches.
