Anthony Joshua has a ‘brilliant chance’ of fighting Deontay Wilder says Eddie Hearn

Eddie Hearn theorises there is a now a “brilliant chance” Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder will happen as the American has entered talks with DAZN.

The WBC heavyweight champion looked set to rematch Tyson Fury next, but the ‘Gypsy King’ signed with rival broadcaster ESPN and opted out of the immediate second bout.

Now, as a result, Wilder is reassessing his options and has opened a dialogue with John Skipper, the Executive Chairman of streaming service DAZN – who broadcast AJ’s fight’s in the States.

“It’s fantastic,” Hearn told reporters after hearing this news, “I think we’ve got a brilliant chance of making the Joshua fight.

“The only way that deal was ever gonna get made was doing it this way – the John Skipper way.

“He’s gotta be the one, in my opinion, that brokers the deal. He’s already proved that he’s very good at doing that.

“And I think he will get Wilder, I do. I think that he will put the deal together for Wilder to fight Joshua.”

Wilder recently assured fans that they will see him face Joshua and then teased the prospect of the bout potentially happening “soon.”

He must first overcome his mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale in May while AJ has to beat Jarrell Miller in June. The next fight could then see all four major heavyweight titles unified.

Regarding the month DAZN would plan to stage Joshua vs Wilder, Hearn revealed: “November/December.

“I think Deontay’s comments have led to this chain of events. By him coming out and saying, ‘I’m not with Showtime, I’m up for speaking to everybody.’

“John knows what he’s doing, so he had to make sure that the approach was there.

“He spoke to me before and said, ‘What do you think?’ I said, ‘f***ing go for it, mate.’

“I have full confidence in him to make this fight.”
